Springtime tour in Skåne

 

Spring in Skåne means a beautiful, sweeping landscape, beech trees glittering in limelight and beautiful gardens with explosions of rhododendron. We will welcome you to a garden tour and guide you to our most famous gardens & castles, public parks, nature and some lovely private garden pearls. You will stay at 4-star Elite Hotel Mollberg, in the middle of the city Helsingborg with an elegant old-fashioned charm and you will enjoy all the comfort and service that this hotel can provide. 14th – 18th of May

Day 1

Arrival at the Copenhagen Airport in the afternoon where you will meet Christina and take a train to Helsingborg for check-in at Hotel Mollberg in the center city of Helsingborg. Dinner is served in the beautiful dining room at the hotel together with your guide.

Day 2

After breakfast we will go with bus alongside Oresund to Sofiero Palace & Garden, Helsingborg, award winning, park originally created by the Royal couple Crown Princess Margaret & Crown Prince Gustav VI Adolf in 1905 – 1920. Crown Princess Margaret was the grand child of Queen Victoria. She was raised at the castle bagshot in England and come to love flowers and gardening already as a child. When she came to Sweden and Sofiero the palace garden consisted of a big lawn and woodland. She transformed the garden and designed several different rooms with flower borders kitchen garden, orchards etc. Her husband was very interested in rhododendrons which were planted in the ravines leading down from the palace to the see.

Today in springtime thousands of flowering rhododendrons will meet you at Sofiero. Christina will guide you in the garden and tell you the story of Margaret & George, later King of Sweden and you will also have a chance to walk on your own for a while before coffee/tea & pastries at the Palace Café & Restaurant.

Our bus will take you to Krapperup Castle, in Nyhamnsläge, a stately renaissance castle with a beautiful and unique landscape park with old trees, ponds, rippling streams, rhododendrons and flower borders. You will meet the head gardener for a guided tour in the beautiful park before late lunch at Krapperup Café.

Leisure time in Helsingborg and free dinner.

Day 3

Norrviken Garden, Båstad, was created in 1906 by the Swedish garden architect Rudolf Abelin. Here you find a baroque garden, a renaissance garden, an oriental garden and a Japanese garden.

Norrviken Gardens has during recent time been restored and are developing an exciting future with a new orangery as well as other garden projects. Don´t forget to visit the charming bumble bee & bee garden or buy honey in the shop from Norrviken own bee hives.

Lunch at Restaurant Villa Abelin

Afternoon walk in the beautiful wild nature close to Norrviken and leisure time with some shopping in the cosy village of Båstad. Shopping stop at a rose nursery in Helsingborg.

Leisure evening with free dinner in Helsingborg.

Day 4

This day we will take the ferry across Oresund to Denmark where a bus will take us to Rungsted and Karen Blixen Museum.

Karen Blixen loved gardening and flowers and to make extraordinary flower arrangements at her estate Rungstedlund just south of Helsingør, where she was born 1885. She later on became the famous writer, sometimes under the pseudonym Isak Dinesen. After her marriage to Bror von Blixen-Finecke the couple moved to Kenya where they started a coffee farm. Her famous memoires became the movie “Out of Africa” in 1985 with Meryl Streep and Robert Redford and is based on the years in Kenya, which she left for Denmark 1931. We will have a guided tour in her home and garden.

Lunch at Karen Blixen café

Afternoon visit in a private garden in Holte near Copenhagen. The owner Mr Peter Wibroe has created a garden inspired by the French baroque gardens and the Italian renaissance gardens and is working with plants adjustable to our Nordic climate.

We will go back to Helsingborg for a free evening.

Day 5

Visit in a private garden in the countryside just outside Ängelholm.

Lunch at Mamsellens Matverkstad & shopping at Hedentorps Garden Shop & Nursery in Ängelholm.

Afternoon visit in a very special, private garden in Mölle where the owner has a collection of more than 250 varieties of rhododendron, and a spectacular sea view as well.

Closing dinner at the hotel.

Day 6

Check out and Departure to Copenhagen Airport

Practicalities

Price for this tour is 12 000:- SEK.

Price includes professional Guide during all the tours, 5 nights in double rooms with breakfast, 2 2-course dinner coffee/cake, 1 lunch, 1 Swedish “fika” and all transports including transfer to the airport.

If you would like a single room it is 3000:- SEK in addition.

We expect a reasonable level of fitness.
