Tjolöholm castle & a Rose Gardeners paradise

We are going for a day out to visit and the beautiful Arts & Crafts castle Tjolöholm and its garden and a private rose garden near Gothenburg.

We will start early for our drive to Halland and Tjolöholm near Kungsbacka. Tjolöholm castle was built 1904 by the Swedish-English family Dickson who loved the Arts & Crafts style. They hired a famous Swedish architect for the mission to design the castle and its exterior and interior. We will get a guided tour inside the castle which is a very fine example of Arts & Crafts furniture and fabrics from Libertys in London. We will also have a tour in the lovely park.  After the tour lunch will be served in a village restaurant nearby.

During the afternoon we will visit the well known rose garden in Malevik, a summer paradise south of Gothenburg. The owner Håkan Gidestrand has grown roses for more than 20 years. He has a special interest for English roses from David Austin as well as hybrid perpetuals. We will have a guided tour in his garden and time for coffee and cakes and discussions.
