The Tintori family has grown lemons and other citrus fruits for generations. They provide many garden centers in Europe with citrus trees in pots, they deliver to Scandinavia as well. In the 1960th Oscar Tintori founded a museum close to his plantation. The collection consists of 400 different varieties of citrus, all presented with information about their different uses and stories. This visit is not just beautiful and interesting, it is also filled with heavenly scents.

DAY 01

A long tradition of pottery making

After a quick lunch we will go south to our next destination near Siena. We will take a stop in the village Inpruneta, which is famous for their terracotta pots, that over the centuries has become a characterizing and distinctive element of Tuscan architecture and of the landscape, as well as a well-known product that’s exported all over the world. We will visit one special factory, The Mariani family has lived and worked here since the turn of the 1900 century. Marco and Vittorio, the fourth generation of Marianis, open up the doors to M.I.T.A.L Antica Mariani for us. We get unique insights into a proud craft tradition, where passion and know-how run like a common thread through everything that is being created here. From here we continue towards Siena and our Agritourismo near Siena, Fattoria Corsignano, which is also a vineyard. Check-in at our Agritourismo, winetasting and dinner, included.

DAY 02

A world known garden beauty

Today we will start early and go to The Garden of La Foce, considered one of Italy’s most beautiful private gardens. The house was originally a small inn and a monastery and was built 1498 and there were also several small farms and land to the estate. 1925 it was bought by Antonio and Iris Origo. They called in the English architect Cecil Pinsent to restore the Villa and surrounding buildings and create a large garden. The house is surrounded by a formal Italian garden, which is divided into geometrical ‘rooms’ by box hedges with lemon trees in terracotta pots. Travertine stairs lead to the rose garden and a winding wisteria-covered pergola bordered by lavender hedge. Gentle informal terraces climb up the hill, where cherry trees, pines and cypresses grow among wild broom, thyme and rosemary, and a long cypress avenue leads to a 17th-century stone statue. We will have a guided tour and there will be time for strolling on your own.

DAY 02

Award winning, sustainable garden

We eat a lunch in nearby village of Montepulicano, included.

Another fantastic garden awaits us in the afternoon, Parco Villa Trecci. After breakfast today we will make an excursion to Parco Villa Trecci in Montepulciano near the beautiful valley Val d´Orcia. This beautiful park was created in 2014 by landscape architect Adelmo Barlesi. The area here gets very hot and dry in the summer and cold in the winter. The park has themed garden and the vision has been to choose plants that can stand the climate without needing constant irrigation. They have built ponds and canals with water pipes to collect rainwater and be able to create both a sustainable and beautiful environment for all the plants here. Parci Villa Trecci has been awarded and recognized internationally and is a very interesting and beautiful destination in Tuscany.

Dinner at Fattoria Corsignano, included.

DAY 03

The Mazzei family has been producing wine here since 1435, literally large parts of Tuscany’s wine history rest here. With the long ownership, the buildings and surroundings have been well cared for, a medieval charm rests over the entire property. We will go on a vineyard tour with wine tasting and lunch. We will also get to look into the private garden next to the castle with Renaissance parterres and rose beds.

Frantoio Pruneti olive oil farm for another kind of tasting and walks in the landscape of olive trees. The sweet hills of Florence, covered with olive groves and irises, is where the history of the Pruneti family and the tradition of those who cultivate this land, enriching its nature and beauty, all began.
